Anxiety Treatment Over 5 Times More Effective than CBT

October 26, 20224 min read

I chose Solution Focussed Hypnotherapy out of over 400 types of hypnotherapy.

When I was looking to become a hypnotherapist I was astounded by how many different approaches there were - literally hundreds. There was RTT and others that looked very mysterious, used regression and, almost unbelievably, claimed to delve into past lives.

It certainly was a mind field and I wasn’t convinced by all of it. Fortunately, I managed to manoeuvre through the sea of choices and found a solution focussed hypnotherapy at Clifton Practice.

My dad had been a senior lecturer at Leeds University in mental health and had asked his old colleagues where they would be credible and backed by neuroscience. 𝙸𝚗 𝚏𝚊𝚌𝚝, 𝚝𝚑𝚒𝚜 𝚌𝚘𝚞𝚛𝚜𝚎 𝚠𝚊𝚜 𝚝𝚑𝚎 𝚘𝚗𝚕𝚢 𝚘𝚗𝚎 𝚠𝚒𝚝𝚑 𝚛𝚎𝚜𝚞𝚕𝚝𝚜 𝚋𝚊𝚌𝚔 𝚞𝚙 𝚋𝚢 𝚛𝚎𝚜𝚎𝚊𝚛𝚌𝚑! A piece of software called CORPS  takes note of the progress made by each client. The results are incredible.

86% of clients improved as a result of SFH in comparison to other mental health treatments like CBT, which I couldn’t believe was only 15%.

How does it work?

The solution focussed hypnotherapy structure is unique and designed to keep the client in the “intellectual” and generally positive part of the brain, which means the whole session is a positive enjoyable experience.

Not like for my friend who had been to another type of hypnotherapy and ended up having to leave because the memories were too painful when brought back to the surface. Instead, when having sessions with clients, they often told me it was the favourite part of their week.

The beauty of the brain is that we spend time on how we want things to be, visualising how we want our futures to be instead of ruminating about the past. Tapping into the imagination and your desires. So it’s all a fun experience.

What happens in a session?

In each session there is a time dedicated to learning about how the brain works, which is so empowering! It gives all the tools and necessary information to actually hack into your brain to produce more serotonin (the feel good neurotransmitter) and keep anxiety, anger and depression at bay for good.  .

My clients' eyes light up when we go through this part and you can see the relief rushing over them as they realise why they have been suffering and what to do about it. So many light bulb moments!

What is hypnosis?

Hypnosis is very much like guided meditation, using specifically designed language patterns. It uses more imagination and visualisation and completely relaxes the body and mind. I remember one client telling me that it was the first time she had completely switched off in years.

Hypnosis itself is actually a very natural state.

I thought it would be like the films when I first started looking into it, but it's as natural as having a daydream (which is a state of hypnosis).

If only all the teachers knew! As it is when a footballer is on the field and cannot hear the crowd. It’s actually a state of hyper-focus and the brain is working 4 times faster.

I remember being a little girl watching Disney and when I was sucking my thumb in front of the TV you could have said anything to me and I wouldn’t have heard! I used to get told off for it so much! But it was just hypnosis! So there’s no stage hypnosis, watches or clucking like a chicken.

You just lie down on the bed, or as I have most of my clients online, wherever is comfortable and listen to the words I speak and relax.

You have complete control over your actions and can bring yourself out of hypnosis at any point. The average number of hypnotherapy sessions for anxiety is 8-12. 1 session for stopping smoking and 4 for phobias, so it can be very quick.

One of my clients had been going to counselling for 17 years and not seen any improvement, but had 4 sessions and had completely changed their confidence, happiness and their life. .

ᵂʰᵉⁿ ᴵ ˡᵉᶠᵗ ᵗᵉᵃᶜʰⁱⁿᵍ, ᴵ ᵈⁱᵈⁿ’ᵗ ᵗʰⁱⁿᵏ ᴵ’ᵈ ᶠⁱⁿᵈ ᵃⁿᵒᵗʰᵉʳ ᶜᵃʳᵉᵉʳ ᵗʰᵃᵗ ʷᵒᵘˡᵈ ᵍⁱᵛᵉ ᵐᵉ ᵃˢ ᵐᵘᶜʰ ˢᵃᵗⁱˢᶠᵃᶜᵗⁱᵒⁿ ᵃˢ ᶜʰᵃⁿᵍⁱⁿᵍ ᶜʰⁱˡᵈʳᵉⁿ’ˢ ˡⁱᵛᵉˢ, ᵇᵘᵗ ⁿᵒʷ ᴵ ʰᵃᵛᵉ..

I've now seen clients give up vaping, creating the confidence to get TV acting roles and go from not being able to leave the house to taking their children out to play again.

I’m so glad I was trained with Clifton Practice especially at this time when anxiety is on the rise, so that I can pass on these tools that have transformed so many lives already.

I can't tell you how bad I usually am just before my period.

It's not unusual for my periods to bounce around a little but I just can't believe I've had ZERO emotional symptoms and so little physical discomfort.

Thank you Gemma you're my new best friend!
